February Book Club Recap: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
I’m late again with my posts. Not a problem. Here are my thoughts on our Gorilla with Glasses Book Club read, Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. This has been sitting on my TBR for a while, and I’m happy to report it was well worth the wait!
From the first chapter, Weir’s storytelling pulled me in with a blend of humor and high-stakes tension. Despite its sci-fi setting, Project Hail Mary never feels overly technical. Instead, the narrative voice is engaging and accessible — perfect for seasoned sci-fi fans and first timers.
If you’re looking for a fast-paced story with a comical protagonist and a few twists along the way, Project Hail Mary is a great choice. I highly recommend giving it a shot!

(Side note: if you didn’t “love” The Martian — which I did not — then I highly recommend you give Andy Weir a second chance with Project Hail Mary. There’s about the same amount of science as The Martian, but the improvement in narrative voice might cause you to really like it. i.e. Project Hail Mary doesn’t feel like a virgin trying to prove they’re smart quite like The Martian did.)
Looking Ahead: March Book Club Pick
The book club has decided that the March book club read is Hyperion by Dan Simmons. This is a classic sci-fi epic. I can’t wait to dive in and see what the hype is all about.
