A delayed post is better than no post! Without further ado, here are the books I read between April and June.
In April, the gorilla with glasses bookclub read through DUNE by Frank Herbert. I’d been looking forward to getting into DUNE and my dad gifted me the book for Christmas so April was the perfect time to dive into it. I was impressed by the world building and character arcs. I can easily see how this is a favorite for many.
In May, the gorilla with glasses bookclub tacked the first installment of the First Law Trilogy, “The Blade Itself”. This book was great. A history of adventure, some action sequences, and plenty of political machinations.
In June, the gorilla with glasses bookclub dove right into the second volume of the First Law Trilogy, “Before they are Hanged”. I thought the story and pacing was a lot better. When I read, “the Blade Itself”, I was a little confused as to why the series was considered “grim dark”. Well, “Before they are Hanged” explains it. Significantly more character development (exploration?) and an engaging, better paced storyline made the second a little bit better than the first for me. I’ll definitely be finishing the trilogy.
Here are all the books I’ve read with some short reviews. (Also, somehow I missed that my slide image/review incorrectly named the author of “The Mountain is You” as Brianna West — Brianna Wiest!)
