I’ve struggled with depression, aka “the big sad” since I can remember. My childhood was full of trauma which caused all sorts of negative behavior, neurotic tendencies, and self sabotage. Through recovery, religion, and exercise, I now live a life with my depression managed. As many know, depression never really goes away but with exercise, my depression doesn’t impact my day-to-day life. Using exercise, I’ve improved my physical and mental health which has allowed me to accomplish things I never thought possible. I’d like to share my strategies and tactics so that you too can start a journey towards depression free living!

Start by doing any sort of movement. A short walk, a hike, and yoga are great starting points.

No! Physical exercise of any kind can be used. I like lifting weights because, well… I like lifting weights.

Do I have to go to a gym?

No! I started exercise out of depression by hiking in the PNW mountains. I started going to the gym after I had kids to reduce my time away.
